Categories & Smart Rules

Decide it once,
per folder.

Handling time, condition, return policy, markup, which channels a range belongs on — these are decisions about a kind of product, not about each product. Set them on a folder and everything inside it inherits them.

  • Marketplace defaults per folder: condition, handling time, policies
  • Amazon fulfilment channel and shipping template, eBay business policies
  • Margin markup and channel syndication, set where they belong
  • Deepest folder wins, so a sub-range can override its parent

What a folder can decide for you

Pick a folder in your tree and its rules pane opens beside it. Anything you don't set is inherited from above, and shown as such — you can always see where a value came from.

Marketplace defaults

Condition and handling time for every channel, plus Amazon's fulfilment channel and shipping template and eBay's payment, return and fulfilment policies.

AI instructions

Free-text guidance for the extractor on this range — "always convert US shoe sizes to UK", "capitalise the brand name" — applied to everything imported into the folder.

Margin markup

A markup percentage for the range, so a folder of high-margin lines and a folder of commodity lines don't have to share one number.

Channel syndication

Which marketplaces this part of the catalogue belongs on at all — because not every range should be on every channel.

Your tree, their taxonomy

Your folders are for you. The marketplace has its own category tree with its own required attributes, and matching the two is the part nobody enjoys.

Search by meaning

Type what the product is, not what the marketplace calls it. Category search works on meaning, so "frying pan" finds the right node even when their label is worded differently.

Kept current for you

Marketplace categories and product types are pulled and refreshed in the background, per marketplace and country — so you're matching against today's taxonomy, not last year's.

Requirements come with it

Choosing a category also settles which attributes are mandatory — which is what makes the "missing fields" list in AI review meaningful rather than generic.

Tree on the left, rules on the right

It's one screen. Click a folder and its rules open beside it — no navigating away and losing where you were in a catalogue of two thousand lines.

Your structure, editable

Build the tree that matches how you actually think about your range — add, rename and remove folders as the catalogue grows, nested as deep as you need.

Find a folder fast

Search by name or id rather than expanding your way down. Useful once the tree is big enough to be worth having.

Always shows the effective value

Each field shows what will actually be used and where it came from, so a rule set three levels up is visible rather than something you have to remember.

Frequently Asked Questions

How inheritance resolves, and how folder rules relate to the rest of the platform.

Still wondering?

Our team replies within a few hours, Mon–Fri.

01 If a parent and a child folder both set a value, which wins?
The deepest one — the folder closest to the product. So you can set sensible defaults high in the tree and override them only where a sub-range genuinely differs, without repeating yourself everywhere in between.
02 How do I tell an inherited value from one I set here?
Inherited values are shown greyed out and italic as a placeholder, so a folder that looks empty is really saying "same as my parent". Type into the field and it becomes an explicit override on that folder.
03 Are these folders the same thing as marketplace categories?
No, and that's deliberate. Your folders are how you think about your range; the marketplace category is what a listing has to be filed under on their side. Products get a marketplace category from the AI listing run, and folder rules supply everything around it.
04 Do folder rules apply to products already published?
They apply when a product is next built or updated through the platform. Changing a folder's handling time doesn't silently rewrite live listings — the new value is used the next time those products are pushed.
05 How does markup here relate to Smart Pricing?
Markup sets the opening price: a product published from the folder with a cost but no explicit price gets cost × (1 + markup). Smart Pricing takes over from there. If you want the markup applied to products that are already priced, there's a deliberate one-click action for that on the folder — it recalculates and pushes the new prices, so it asks before it overwrites.
06 Can I stop a whole range from going to one channel?
Yes — that's what channel syndication on the folder is for. Switch a marketplace off for that part of the tree and nothing new from it is published there, without having to filter those products out of every import. It holds back new publishes only: anything already live stays live, so a switch isn't a mass delisting.
